Around the Corner-Amy Butler style

Check out our latest "featured" pattern of the month for our Sewcial Hour.  It is Around the Corner by Heather Mulder Peterson.  We chose to use the periwinkle and lime coordinates from one of Amy Butler's latest groupings, Soul Blossoms by Westminster Fabrics.

The lap size measures 47" x 66", a size perfect for cuddling up, using as a decorative throw, or planning a picnic.  We love how the fabrics form interlocking squares so very effortlessly.   It's hard to believe, but the entire quilt is composed of a single block pattern that twists and turns.  The pattern is absolutely wonderful, making use of a single background and assorted 2 1/2" strips.   Although we stayed in a very distinct palette, this lends itself to scrappy versions as well.  The pressing directions included are clear and make for perfectly nesting and matching seams, which in turn leads to a nice flat top to quilt.  We did choose to cut our borders length of grain which meant no piecing of a large scale print, as well as offering more stability to the finished piece.  Matching bias binding was cut and applied to complete a very cohesive look.

We chose to put soft, fine wale corduroy on the back...nummy.....and Kenna quilted big loops and swirls and flowers to mimic the designs found in the fabrics.  We LOVE this quilt and highly recommend it for anyone who would be considered a beginner with some experience.  The pattern is a great buy, offering alternate quilt sizes, a table runner version, and an octagonal piece that could be used for a table covering or a tree skirt.  Stop in to see and feel the actual quilt...even Steff's masterful photography doesn't do this one justice.
