Slipper Cuties - November 2011 Embroidery Club Project
>> Tuesday, November 1, 2011
For our November Embroidery Club I chose the pattern - SLIPPER CUTIES by Fig Tree & Company. These cuddly slippers can be made for anyone in the family. The pattern is for a child's slipper but Fig Tree gives directions on creating any size.
We found a few things that you can do to make these easier to construct. You can follow the directions for 'creating your size' slipper but we suggest you add 1" extra length on back seam of the 'toe shape' piece. After pinning to sole to check fit, stitch seam and trim any excess.
Also, adding center marks at the toe & heel of bottom and at center front of top will make it easier to get your sole in straight.
If you choose to embroider something on our slipper (we did because it's our Embroidery Club Project) you can place a Monogram or Initial 2" from toe end.
Being this was our embroidery club project we chose to stipple quilt (using our embroidery machine of course!) the whole 1/3 yard. We only stipple quilted through the Outer and Batting. We traced the pattern pieces onto our quilted piece and did the embroidery BEFORE cutting out the slippers. Note:
We also used Bonded Cuddle for our lining. This is an incredible fabric that looks like suede on one side and Minkee on the other. We put the Minkee side as the right side. Oh! So Soft!
Now, what you always want - the recipe for the dessert I served at club. Here is the one for November's Embroidery Club
MOUNDS CANDY BARS
2 c. graham cracker crumbs
1/4 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. melted butter
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 c. sweetened coconut flakes
12 oz. chocolate chips
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix the graham cracker crumbs, powdered sugar and butter. Press into a 9x13 pan. Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Mix sweetened condensed milk with flaked coconut and vanilla. Pour over crust. Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees. While warm, frost with chocolate chips. Sprinkle chips on hot bars and return to oven a minute or two until the chips are melted. Spread melted chips on bars and cut while warm.
Enjoy!
